Chitra, a Tamil and Malayalam actress, died of a heart attack at the age of 56.
Chitra, a popular Malayalam actress who also appeared in Tamil films, died on Saturday, August 21st, after suffering a heart arrest. The actress, who appeared in over 100 films, died in her Saligramam home in Chennai at the age of 56.
Chitra, also known as "Nallennai Chithra," began her acting career as a child artist in 1975, when she appeared in the film "Apoorva Raagangal," directed by K Balachander. Kamal Haasan and Srividya played the key roles in the film. In the same year, she appeared in the Malayalam film Kalyanappanthal.
She made her adult acting debut in the Malayalam film "Aattakalasam" in 1983, sharing screen time alongside Mohanlal and Prem Nazir. She subsequently went on to collaborate with some of the biggest stars in Malayalam and Tamil cinema.
Chitra was with her family when she suffered a heart attack, which led to her death this morning, according to sources. Her husband Vijayaraghavan and daughter Mahalakshmi survive the 56-year-old actress.
Chitra became known as Nallennai Chithra after becoming famous as a result of her work in an oil company's campaign. In more than 100 films, the actress has wowed audiences with her dramatic abilities.
Following the news of her death, many of her fans and industry acquaintances took to social media to express their condolences to her family.
Prithviraj Sukumaran, an actor, expressed his condolences for the actress on Twitter. “Rest in Peace!” he tweeted.
Chitra's most notable performances as an actress were Kalikkalam (1990), Devasura (1993), and Pathamudayam (1985).

Madhavan and Devi's daughter Chitra was born in Kochi in 1965. She has two brothers and sisters. She completed her education at ICF Higher Secondary School in Chennai, where she studied through the tenth grade, after which she entered the film industry.
